Public Art & Landscape at TTU HSC AMARILLO

The sculptural masonry elements and ceramic tile flatwork designed by artist Ken Williams, connect the natural beauty of the nearby Palo Duro Canyon with the urban architecture at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, Texas. The artwork serves as a welcoming gateway to unite the campus, connecting the natural and human-made environments by reflecting the topography and communicating a graphic history of the area.

The landscape architect led site planning & design for the three sculptures, fine tuned the site selections, manipulated the orientation of the features and worked closely with the artist to incorporate paved flatwork areas for the ceramic work and develop accessible paths to the artwork that compliments the organic forms of the art. The site design includes curvilinear masonry site walls and pedestrian seating that enhance the quality of the spaces as well as tie the sculptures back to the campus vocabulary of materials.
